Description
As Chess descended down the stairs towards the ballroom she quickly held and eye out for any unfortunate events. Passou, who was supposed to accompany her that evening, would be waiting at the bottom. Reaching out her hand instinctively she took hold of one that was not Passou at all. Vampires were all the same in that area, poor human Passou just didn't quite reach temperatures beneath the norm.
In instance disgust she looked down at Vaux, raising a eyebrow, "What are you doing here?"
"I heard there were vampires here, I needed to check it out. It is, after all, my duty as council representative to pursue such leads believed against the good of many."
"You've never taken your position seriously before, what makes this so different?" she demanded, taking her hand back to reach into her clutch for a compact mirror.
"There's a certain pretty cat in a dress here tonight, I wanted to see her."
"And what did you do with Passou?"
"Last I heard he was dumpster diving out back..."
"Did you seriously place my escort in a dumpster and leave him there?" She flipped open the mirror and began checking her make up, and tried not to jump when he leaned in close to her ear. She didn't see him lean in due to the lack of reflection...it was something only the purebloods possessed and Vaux loved taking advantage of it.
"I don't know which is more humorous, the fact that you believe me or that you're a vampire looking into a mirror."
"Unlike you I have a reflection," she stated proudly, closing it quickly and putting it back in, "No need to be jealous."
"Mademoiselle I am jealous of many things, a reflection is not one of them. It would give me just one more thing to worry about."
"As if you worry about anything to begin with," she practically spat, "Here I am on an important mission and you find it funny to sabotage my partner, insult me, and downright annoy any living existence I have left."
"Mission? What is it Exodus sent you to retrieve now?" he asked meekly, putting his hands into his pockets.
"The Calliar Orb," she said, "The one they asked you to retrieve and you simply said you couldn't be bothered."
"Oh, this one, you mean?" he said, taking his hand out of his pocket to show her the glass sphere no larger than his palm safely held between his thumb and forefinger.
Chess felt her mouth open in shock and quickly closed it, "If you were going to get it all along why did you let us go this far?" she asked, once again, annoyed.
"This piece of shape shifter kryptonite was sealed in a silver safe surrounded by garlic of all things, and holy water. How did you expect to get it out yourself?"
"I would have figured something out," she answered curtly, making a grab for it quickly only to watch her hand grab thin air as the orb disappeared. Vaux had moved it to another dimension for his safe keeping, she knew. She also knew there was no getting it back until he so graciously granted it to her presence. It was why they had wanted him to get it in the first place...
"Well now that you have it we can go," she said.
"I didn't come for the orb."
"Then what ARE you doing here?!" she demanded.
"I came for a dance," he said holding out his arm to her, "Shall we?"

Our two vampires, Cheshire (Chess) and Vauxman (Vaux). I really love writing bickering between them. Also, anti-hero stories are the best stories, so I really love these two.

I'm still thinking of your last journal and wanting to gape in disbelief that anyone could put down your art....
The vampire fellow reminds me of another character I've seen somewhere, I think, but I'm having a hard time remembering who. Pretty features and hair.
